A very important update as so much has happened...

The past several months have flown by quickly. Boredom tends to slow time down. I can honestly say things have NOT been boring at all.

You may recall me mentioning that I provide direct support services for individuals with occupational and developmental disabilities as well as other special needs. One of my clients had sacral spinal fusion surgery in August of 2022. This required me to become more hands on than I have been before in my career. For me, this was uncharted territory to say the least. Despite all of the research done and expert consultations sought I'll admit I was very concerned. Was I capable to fill this role? Did I have the knowledge? Ultimately, I was prepared. However, the unknown can still be very daunting.

Now that we're just over 8 months post-op for a surgery that was successful I can honestly say the past several months have been very exhausting. My client's recovery has taken a toll physically, but mentally it had lit a fire that still burns. Chock it up to personal initiative or sheer stubbornness on my behalf, I was not going to not be able to step up and support my client through this post-op recovery. Besides being my own worst critic and questioning my own preparedness at every turn, failure never entered my mind. After all, my client was the one who would have to endure a major surgery and extensive recovery thereafter. I waqs not going to let my client down. This possibility was never posed by any member of the team, which I am thankful for as it armed me with the necessary confidence to jump in the waters and tread water immediately.

The entire experience has been for the greatest possible outcome. Recovery has been very consistent and positive in its direction. I could not be more proud of my client and the team I have worked so closely with during this time. The learning I have taken part in has been very humbling. You always get an appreciation for magnitude of things when you realize how much you DO NOT know. This experience with my client has been no exception. I am greatful for all I have learned to expand my own toolkit as well as all of the time given by so many to help progress my education and training. I hope to share so much of it in the future.

I know we're way past the point of resolutions (personally I am not a fan of them) being we're in the month of April, but I do have a goal for myself for 2023. This can be directly applied to this experiment. In short, more consistent contributions to this site, more content created, as well as sharing some of the knowledge acquired through my client's surgery and post-op recovery. The knowledge has not only impacted my client's life for the better, but my own as well. And this journey continues still.

So looking forward to what lies ahead with excitement! Thanks for reading. :-)
